3 or more Tuesday...rose paintings

Hello & welcome to another 3 or More Tuesday, hosted by Tam @ The Gypsy's Corner . 3 or More is one of my favorite meme's because it's a great way to feature a collection & it's always fun to see everyone else's. For today's post, I am sharing my collection of rose paintings. All were thrift store finds & none are masterpieces but I think their amateur look only adds to their appeal. I have reframed most of them & added glazing, etc to some, to tone down "too bright" coloring .

I like to group my collections so they are all displayed on a large wall in my bedroom. Visualize the old vanity painted a steel blue, antiqued w/ glaze, of course. I have had a hard time deciding what color to paint it & I think I have finally decided on an antiqued steel blue finish....what do you think? Yes or no? I've also considered mustard yellow & olive green...which color would you choose? Also, yay or nay to the "Etc" sign...does it add or take away from the wall vignette?

I bought the "Always Kiss Me Goodnight" sign @ Golightly's Antique's, here in Ft Worth.

This next one is the oldest in my collection & is also my favorite, it's oil painted on cardboard & is dated 1946.

This big oil painting was the first in my collection & the little oil on canvas is one of my faves. I've left it unframed just because.

I kept the next 2 watercolors as is....they didn't need anything as I loved the frames & they already had an aged look to them. They are probably from the 50's. I considered getting rid of the wild rose one on the left because it is very amateurish but I couldn't bear to split them up.

This oil painting had been bent & the paint was all cracked off in the crease so I touched it up & smoothed it in & you can't even tell now. This artist probably had the most talent, don'tcha think?

You may remember this next watercolor from this thrift finds post back in November. I reframed it in an old frame, rubbed it w/ some shoe polish & aged it w/ tea bags. Doesn't it look sooo much better?

Love the teeny-tiny ladybug!

I wish I had taken before pictures of these next 2 oil paintings, prior to glazing them but it was long before I started blogging.... both were very bright & the glazing (I'll use just about anything to glaze....acrylic paint watered down, furniture stain, shoe polish, even tea bags...whatever works!) helped so much to tone that down. On teh top one, I used too much glaze so I dry-brushed on some white paint...it worked!

In a magazine, I once saw a wall of amateur rose paintings & fell in love w/ the look. It took me over 10 years to amass my collection as I insisted upon them all being thrift store finds & I had a $10 limit on each. That made the hunt for my collection a lot more fun & rewarding. Do y'all do that too?

Be sure & stop in over @ Tam's to see who else is playing along today...Happy 3 or More Tuesday!

It is like having the garden inside. Very nice. You should try to paint some yourself ;o)

Love to buy old primitive paintings too. The roses are great. What about a very light pearly gray combined with a lot of white or a light duck egg blue??? I think that would look wonderful to as a colour for your room.

Hi Cami...

Just read the sweet note that you left on my ironstone post...thank you so much for coming by and leaving me such a nice comment! Girl, I have to tell you...after you told me that your very first Three or More Tuesday post was about your ironstone tureen collection...I've been on the hunt! hehe! It took me awhile...I started at the beginning of your blog and went through all of your posts till I found it! Hmmm...November 11,2008! There they were...those gorgeous ironstone soup tureens...in all their beauty!!! You have a lovely collection and I sure did enjoy enlarging the photo...just drinking in all the little details! I'm really looking forward to seeing your ironstone creamer collection! When you post it...if you think about it...let me know!

Well now...about today's post! Girl, you have a fabulous collection of old oil paintings...the roses are just gorgeous! And I love the way you've displayed them on the wall...a beautiful wall grouping!!! You know...I never thought about using an antiquing effect on a painting to make it look older...great idea...one that I will use in the future!!!

Your dresser is magnificent!!! I enlarged the photos to see the detailing! Girl, it would be beautiful painted the steel blue but I must admit...the wood is really beautiful...I would have a difficult time painting over it! I think it's gorgeous..as is!!!

Well..since I went through so many of your posts...hehe! Just wanted to tell you that you have a gorgeous home!!! I love all of your decor and you have some really beautiful things!!!

Warmest wishes,
Chari

Cami, I always have a soft spot for roses. Your paintings are lovely! As I sit here in my terribly drab computer room, I think I need rose paintings. I'm going to have to be on the look out now. Grins.

I love the wall of roses! So pretty! Keep the etc. sign, it fits in perfectly and makes a nice addition.

Blue is my favorite color, so I'm not very objective at advising you!

Your paintings are wonderful!!
What a nice selection.
I love how you 'glazed' some of them. Great idea about the shoe polish.
I'll have to try it.

Thanks for coming by to visit.

The collection is exquisite! I love that you put a limit on the price and that it had to come from a thrift store....it made the hunt all the more fun didn't it?! Yeah, I do stuff like that too. LOL! About the beautiful vanity that I pure want....I think the blue would be so pretty or either the olive green...that's a tough question... seeing how beautiful it is right now. I can't wait to see what you decide to do. I hope you have a great day! TTYL,
