Trim a Tree Thursday

Happy Trim a Tree Thursday...hosted by Brett @ The Southern Hostess . I won't start my Valentine's decor until the first (& then I'll be racing to get it done) so today I am sharing last year's decor. Some of it I am happy w/ it but I hope that it will be hugely improved this year. ;o)

This was the everyday centerpiece on my dining room table. I used another centerpiece for my Valentin'es dinner & will share pics of it in a Tablescape Thursday post soon.

I don't know why the coloring is so off in this photo...weird! But it's some stacked plates w/ a Valentine theme. I didn't have enough small stuff to make it full so I filled in places w/ votives full of candy.

Reaaalllllly not happy w/ photo & wouldn't even share it except I want to WOW you w/ the improvement I will make this year. ;o) It's going to be much better...I promise. Or you'll neevr see the pic. *grins*

I put a Valentine given to hubby's father when he was a boy (it's dated 1945) in a compote full of hearts, under a cloche. The table needs some fabric to soften it up some....why do I only see details like that in a pic? Is it just me? You wouldn't believe how blogging has helped me w/ my decor. I have the ability to put on rose-colored glasses & see things the way I envision them being....not how they actually are. Photos force me to take off those glasses & see the room/vignette for how it really looks.

My kitchen window. You can just barely make out the bottom of my pans that hang above it. Get a good look 'cause next week they'll be gone. ;o) We recently bought an iron piece to hug the ceiling & we are turning it into a pot rack. I cannot wait! I HATE the pot rack hanging over teh sink but it had to go somewhere when we put up a cabinet over the island.

Coleson broke this bell dome a few months ago. I still miss it! :o(

The mantel was cute but now seems unfinished to me. I'm not a "less is more" kind of gal & it just seems like it needs a little sumthin' sumthin'.

I love this china cabinet. I bought it many years ago. It did have a dark stain on it but I painted it white & distressed it a bit.

This year's decor is going to be soo much better! I'll feature pics of it next week.

It all looks so beautiful...and if this is the appetizer...I can hardly wait for the main dish. I say this because you had mentioned that this was from last years decor.. and that this year it will be better. I can hardly wait. I'll be back to see what you do...it's always so much fun visiting you. I absolutely adore your white cabinets with all of the pretties.

Ahh, everything looks so warm and inviting. For years I had red, white and pink hearts cut from felt with a name embroidered on each one. Ribbon ties were sandwiched between the two sided hearts. Five hearts represented us and our dog, more hearts were made for my godmother (both sets of the boys' grandparents had passed by then) and also Bill's brother, sis-in-law and their kids. Two hearts were redone each year as the boys' girlfriends changed throughout the years.

The hearts were tied together to form a long garland or sometimes two. The boys and their four cousins often rearranged who was tied to whom, based on sibling friction at the time...cooties, ya know. ;-)

Cami, I totally spaced, yes I do remember that I don't always respond to them it does take loads of time and I am sure someone new is going to feel left out, I think your policy is a good one (: My daughter and sis are new in the blogging world so I thought I would participate in this one to include them. Silly me
Hugs, Diane

You go all out for the holidays too! My friends think I am bizarre, but once an elem school teacher...always ready to decorate for the next holiday!

I love the toile in the first pic!
And I hope you get to replace that cloche...it's a beauty..
I saw one like it in Michael's...it was tempting, but I have one, and I don't want to start collecting them!
They take up a lot of room.
Love all your "heart felt" decos!

I thought trim a tree was about Cmas...I will have to investigate!

How Valentiny festive! That's a shame about your bell dome...I'm sure he gave you the big puppy dog eyes!

And I have to say, you don't *look* like a grandma! : )

Well, I for one, can't wait to see it b/c I didn't think there was anything wrong w/ last years. Now, I have good news for you. You know your broken cloche, well I was in Pier 1 last night looking for one I THOUGHT I had seen, and they had one just like the one in your photo for around $20-something. I have the same "LOVE" sign. On the fireplace you thought might be missing something, I bet some red or pink tulle (from a roll at Michael's) would love great woven through there....just a suggestion b/c it looks good to me if you do nothing at all!
