Make your Monday...crown

Hi y'all....I'm playing in a new meme today...Make Your Monday, hosted by Kim @ Twice Remembered. I just discovered Kim's wonderful blog & if you havn't yet, you are in for a treat! It's beautiful w/ lots of great ideas!

For my post today, I'd like to share a crown I made. One day, while shopping in Michael's, I saw some foam crowns in garrishly bright colors but as soon as I saw them I knew they would be wonderful made-over. I got so excited about the project that I forgot to get a before shot. I always do that!!! But picture a bright yellow foam crown, made for kids (I think). I hit it w/ a couple of coats of ivory spray paint, rubbed the edges w/ some rub & buff to age it a bit, glued a strip of aged sheet music around teh base & adorned it w/ vintage clip on earrings (I removed the backs from them). It connected w/ tabs so to cover them, I added a big tulle bow.

You'll never guess what the rhinestone center of the bow is....a napkin ring! I bought a bunch of them on eBay a few years ago but they were a lot tackier than I expected them to be so I have never used them as napkin rings. I just slipped strips of tulle through the ring & glued it on. Isn't it beautiful? I just love it!

Here you can see the sheet music trim a little better. I distressed the edges of it a bit w/ some distressing ink before gluing it on. Cost of this lovely crown? A whopping 99 cents! :o)

I had a lot of fun w/ this project & get a smile everytime I see my "fou-fou crown". Visit Kim's Make Your Monday post for more crafty ideas.

  1. Aren't you clever! That would be great as a project for a 12-year old girly birthday party - they could decorate their own. Thanks. Sally
